Day 1, Red

Day 1, RED

So I started with a bright red mini polish I got as part of a set, annoyingly none of which have names on the bottles. But here it is:-

Cute, but too plain. Add some lip stamps from my massive stamping plate that Little Sis got for me, using konad stamping polish, black and voila! Kisses!

31 Day Nail Challenge 2013!

Hi guys!
I know it seems like I kinda abandoned this blog, there has just been a lot going on lately and there are not enough hours in the day!
But enough excuses, maybe the 31 Day Challenge will be just the kick up the butt I need to get me back into my blogging! Watch this space…

Lounging in Leopard Print

Hi guys! I was feeling a little stuck for inspiration as to what to do with my nails today. So I decided to try out the ol’ faithful leopard print, but with a new twist!

20130625-200239.jpg
I decided to try and replicate the pattern on my cardigan, sort of a grey and white patchy background with the black print on top. So I thought I’d give the tissue-blotting method a try! I started by painting a base coat of grey, a George nail varnish in colour 64, Witchcraft.

20130625-200531.jpg
Once it was completely dry, I painted each nail one by one in white, immediately blotting most of it off with a scrunched up price of tissue paper before the white could dry. This alone left a pretty cool effect! Take a look!

20130625-200704.jpg
Then, once this layer was dry, I stamped on my fave leopard print, using the Konad classics, image plate m57 and black special stamping polish.

20130625-200926.jpg
Seal with a top coat of Seche Vite, (the single best top coat in the world), and voila! Printy Perfection!

Summery Silhouettes!

The other day I was feeling super summery, and longing for some sunshine! I decided to break out some of my brightest nail varnishes, and this is what I came up with:-

20130618-113148.jpg
It reminds me of an exotic sunset! Really makes me wanna go on holiday. Here’s how I did it: I started with a BRIGHT orange base, Models Own, Hed Kandi. Even with the flash off, it’s still so vibrant!

20130618-113335.jpg
Then I sponged on some hot pink, which doesn’t have a name on the bottle but is a Kelly Brook polish that came with some nail caviar beads of the same colour.

20130618-113525.jpg
It can be quite messy! But you can easily clean the edges up by dipping a cotton bud in some nail varnish remover. Or I strongly recommend getting your hands on some Leighton Denny, nail corrector fluid. Best Christmas present ever! It seems to just dissolve nail varnish on contact! Amazing. Then I added a black palm tree using my nail varnish pen and a couple of silhouettes of birds, and bam! Bright, summery, holiday nails!

Gorgeous Green Gradient!

So, today I’m gonna show you a mani that genuinely surprised me.
I’m not the biggest fan of the colour green. I mean, it’s alright and everything, but I’m not that bowled over by green. But I wanted to do something different, so I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried to come up with something green that I wouldn’t hate. Sometimes I like to challenge myself. And I came up with this, and I actually absolutely love it!!

20130514-213504.jpg
I started with a neon green base coat, and hated it. So I thought I’d cover it up with some ombré fading to black.

20130514-213627.jpg
Hmmm, it’s alright, but so very green! I wanted to cover it with some sort of stamp. And I’m actually thrilled with the results! The more I look at it, the more I love it!

20130514-214013.jpg
I feel all inspired!! So I want to inspire all of you, too! Step out of your comfort zones, readers! You might find something you quite like!
(and on that motivational note, I shall bid you adieu, and go stare at my nails some more)

Stripey!

Hey guys!
So today I’m gonna post about the nails I’m currently rockin’!

20130512-134736.jpg
Simple and pretty!! I started by painting my nails white. This white is by Sally Hansen, but I can’t remember what the colour is called. I’ve said before but I’ll say it again, white is SO unforgiving. I did 2 coats and it was still streaky, but as it’s for my base coat I wasn’t too fussed.

20130512-134948.jpg
Then I did some black stripes using my Konad special stamping polish, and one of the huge image plates my little sis got me for Christmas!

20130512-135116.jpg
I’ve used that stamp to do diagonal stripes before, but this time I went with horizontal, and it turned out like this:

20130512-135205.jpg
Just as it is, I thought that Mani looked pretty cool! But I opted for a slight colour-pop by free-handing a tiny pink heart on my ring finger. I love accent nails, they just help to break up the monotony of the pattern a little bit!

20130512-135436.jpg
Boom! Job done! Simple yet effective! And quite quick to do. All told with drying-time included between layers, this one took me about 30mins to do both hands.
I do really like this one actually. I may even leave it on for a few days!!

The 5 minute mani

Hey guys!
This is just a quick post to show you a Mani that I wore for literally 5 minutes yesterday.
I’m not sure exactly what I was trying to achieve, I was just playing around with stuff. It took me about half an hour to make, but literally as it was still drying I received a new nail varnish in the post and immediately had to try it!! So I swiftly took this one off and put my new surprise nail varnish on. Ever more proof that I have more free time than sense.

20130509-104933.jpg
Ta daa! I started with a pale lilac base coat, sponged on some darker lilac ombré around the tips, followed by a pearly shimmer, then to top it off I freehanded some squiggles on with a deep purple using a thin nail art brush. Here’s the colours I used…

20130509-105214.jpg
For the brief few moments that I wore it, someone suggested it looked kind of like an underwater scene. So maybe I’ll try it again some time with blues and greens instead.
Even though it didn’t last long, it’s all practice!
Ciao for nao!

GLITT-ARRGH!

TODAY’S POST WILL BE IN SHOUTY CAPS-LOCK! BECAUSE I AM ANNOYED! EXPECT LOTS OF EXCLAMATION MARKS TOO!!!

I AM POSTING TO SHARE WITH ALL OF YOU THE FRUSTRATION I HAVE WITH MY ONGOING LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH GLITTER NAIL VARNISH! LOVE HOW IT LOOKS, HATE TAKING IT OFF!!

HERE IS WHAT MY NAILS LOOKED LIKE, PRETTY NICE I THOUGHT! I LIKE PURPLE!

20130429-210829.jpg
I SAW ON A NAIL BLOG ONCE, A SUPER EFFECTIVE WAY TO REMOVE NAIL VARNISH! TEAR UP COTTON WOOL BALLS, SOAK IN NAIL VARNISH REMOVER, AND LEAVE ON YOUR NAILS FOR A FEW MINUTES! THEN REMOVE WITH ONE SWIFT MOVEMENT, PINCHING DOWNWARDS ON THE NAIL FROM CUTICLE TO TIP! MAKE SURE THE WOOL IS REALLY SOAKED IN REMOVER!

20130429-211326.jpg
HOWEVER, WHEN I CAME TO REMOVE IT ABOUT 3 MINUTES LATER I WAS LEFT WITH THIS!!

20130429-211518.jpg
WORKED ON SOME NAILS, BUT NOT ALL!! ARRRGGHH! SKIP FORWARD ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF FURIOUS SCRUBBING WITH A STANDARD COTTON WOOL PAD SOAKED IN REMOVER, AND EVENTUALLY IT ALL CAME OFF! BUT IT’S JUST SO STUBBORN!!

20130429-211753.jpg
AND THEN EVEN ONCE ALL THE GLITTER HAD COME OFF MY NAILS, THERE WAS LOADS ALL OVER MY FINGERS AND HANDS!! GAH! RANT RANT RANT! I CAN NEVER RESIST A PRETTY GLITTER THOUGH, SO I WILL INEVITABLY FIND MYSELF IN THIS STRUGGLE AGAIN SOON!
IF ANYONE CAN OFFER ANY OTHER TIPS OR ADVICE ON HOW TO BETTER REMOVE GLITTER, PLEASE DO LET ME KNOW!
Thankyou! <3

Cleaning out my collection

Hi guys! So while I was painting my nails today, I finally decided I’ve had enough of having to rifle through my Nailbox to find the polish I want. So I emptied it all out and neatly put it all back. Hooray for organisation! :)

As I went through I inspected each one to check for separation, gloopiness, general oldness. But luckily I only had to throw away 3! And they weren’t 3 of my favourite ones anyway.

20130418-192108.jpg

20130418-192146.jpg

Boom! And this is just the stuff that fits in my Nailbox. I also have a basket full of overflow polish and nail art paraphernalia (nail pens, stamps, brushes, sponges, remover etc). Always room for more, though! (I’m gonna need another box…)
